Growing up in the South Carolina, Marian discovered her lifelong passion for dogs when she received a Blue Heeler from her grandfather at 5 years of age. She would go on to work with her Heeler, Dixie Cowgirl, in obedience, agility, and herding training.
At 9 years old, she was given a Boykin Spaniel puppy by her father, a sportsman and gundog enthusiast, to be her first training project under his tutelage.  At 6 months of age, “I’m Drake 2” attended his first Boykin Spaniel Society National Hunt Test. He would complete in the Novice Division under the whistle of one of the youngest handlers competing, Marian. For years following, the pair went on to compete in more National Hunt Tests, winning the Chairman’s Cup twice, which is awarded to the Top Junior Handler in the nation.

Following this, Marian took an interest in horseback field trial bird dogs, especially English Pointers, having seen dogs not suitable for the professional field trial circuit come to her father to be hunted on local plantations or re-homed.

At age 11 for her birthday, she received her first pointer puppy from a very dear friend. Her passion expanded and she spent most of her middle, high school, and college career competing in Amateur Field Trial Club trials with a string of six or more dogs. All of the dogs she ran in trials or hunted were “wash outs” from trainers or owners with larger strings. She saw these dogs as challenges and worked to fix or accommodate their quirks and issues to win trials with them and give them a home until the ends of their lives. She was successful in her field trial pursuits, winning many awards and competitions as the only woman and handler her age.

In addition to all of the competitive achievements she has collected, Marian has trained dogs for retrieving of waterfowl and upland game, blood trailing, game trailing, pointing, and much more. She loves animals of any variety, but dogs have always been her most beloved.

Marian has been certified as a trainer by participating in a 395hr apprenticeship with our sister company Controlled K9.

Marian started her internship with the company the summer of 2017 and certified with the company March 2018

Leah V

Leah VanLangevelde

Trainer Intern

Leah's mom said that her first word was “dog” before anything else. As soon as Leah could walk, she was always walking up to every dog she saw. As she aged, her love for canines only grew and grew. After she asked every single day for a dog, she finally wore her parents out and got her first dog at the age of 8. It was then that she knew her relationship with canines was far deeper than most. Leah has fostered over 50 dogs and has two foster fail mutts of her own, Cleopatra and Roo

Leah grew up in Holland, Michigan. She went to Louisiana State University and graduated in 2020 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then moved to Charleston and landed a homeschooling while continuing to pursue a career in dog training. She found a local dog training company where she participated in their apprenticeship program. She then found No Xcuses K9 and joined the team! Leah started participating in our new trainer internship program in December of 2022 where she will be certified as a trainer through No Xcuses K9!  Her favorite aspect of dog training is the relationship you build with your dog through that process, and the bond it creates for life. She is looking forward to helping you create that relationship as well!

Elijah

Elijah Mccoy

Trainer Intern

Elijah started out his training career with rehabilitating his family dog Bandit who was a Pitbull terrier they got at 6 months. After training Bandit his dad bought Elijah his very first personal dog "Smokey" to do all the training with. Elijah took everything he learned for rehabilitation training with Bandit and did everything to make sure Smokey didn’t get that way. He then started watching more dog training videos for obedience, personal protection, and behavior modification. Elijah has also been breeding American Bullies and Pitbulls for 6 years now and has just started breeding working line Rottweilers for personal protection.

Elijah fell in love with personal protection training and behavior modification because of the satisfaction of seeing the finish product and changing people's lives.

Along with the experience Elijah has listed above he also has experience in the veterinary industry! Elijah started out as a tech assistant with a local vet in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and within about a year became a technician. He has been there for 2 years and loves that it gives him more insight on the health of dogs.

Elijah had been doing training on his own for the past 5-6 years and wanted to get certified and be a dog trainer full time. Elijah joined the No Xcuses K9 team and started participating in our new trainer internship program where he will be certified as a trainer through No Xcuses K9!
